February 12 - lead like Jesus

You’re listening to OKY. The place where we discuss what we believe and why we believe it to be true! This week we started a quick series on the life of Jesus. Today I want to jump to Mark 6:7-13

Then Jesus went around teaching from village to village. Calling the Twelve to his, he began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over impure spirits.

These were his instructions: “Take nothing for the journey except a staff-no bread, no bag, no money in your belts. Wear sandals but not an extra shirt. Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you leave that town. And if any place will not welcome you or list4en to you, leave that place and shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.”

They went out and preached that people should repent. They drove out many demons and anointed many sick people with oil and healed them.”

Jesus was the absolute best model of a great leader that we could ever look to!

This is one of the biggest leadership principles that he showed us. And it was how to multiply himself and raise up other leaders. I’ve been in ministry for 24 years and I will tell you, this is something that the church isn’t necessarily the best at doing this, but if they would, ministry would exponentially grow in ways we never could imagine.

Here is what Jesus did.

He first brought the disciples along and had them follow and watch what he was doing. They saw him do his miracles, heard his prayer life, and even witnessed his interactions with others. They were watching and learning the entire way. This is why he also shared the answers to parables with them that not everyone was privy to. He wanted his closest followers to be the ones who could understand his works and do the same things.

Then after they witnessed and learned these things, he allowed them to try. Listen to Matthe4w 17:14-20

When they came to the crowd, a man approached Jesus and knelt before him. “Lord, have mercy on my son,” he said. “He has seizures and is suffering greatly. He often falls into the fire or into the water. I brought him to your disciples, but they could not heal him.”

You unbelieving and perverse generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me.” Jesus rebuked the demon and it came out of the boy, and he was healed at that moment.

Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, “Why codlin’t we drive it out?”

He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move form here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

Jesus allowed them to try, and when they failed, he helped them learn. So he did while they watched, Then they did while he watched and helped them learn. Now in Mark 6, he sent them out to do on their own.

This is true leadership.

Jesus was about raising up the next generation of those would would minister.

This is a lesson we should all learn.

First, if you are in the church, you should follow the practice of Jesus and teach others so that they can learn, and then release them to grow while you shepherd them, so that they can then go and do on their own while someone else learns from them.

If you are a business owner, the more you invest in your team, the more they will succeed. And the more they succeed, the more your company will have success.

And if you are just a Christian. . . . The more you invest in those around you, the more they will succeed. And the more they succeed, the more successful you will be in doin the things that God has called you to.

So if you are going to learn and be like Jesus. . . invest in others! Help them grow so that you can see them reach their fullest potential. And in so doing, you will be a great leader! And you will be like Jesus!

That’s all the time we have left for today. I love you, and God bless.
